Beach Time.

Rafi, Charlie and I headed to the beach after I picked up Raf from school. It was a bit of an impromptu trip as Rich was in class (the final class of his masters!) and I didn't even bring towels along with us. Still, it was a beautiful evening and it would be have been such a shame to miss what felt like the first proper day of summer. Raf was really nervous about the big waves and didn't want much to do with the water at first... but that soon changed. Before I knew it he'd found a friend and they ran along the beach, dipping in and out of the frigid water, for almost 2 hours! Raf got naked towards the end, and had a fine time covering himself in wet sand and then washing himself off in the sea. He and his new friend had a nice hug as we got into the car. Charlie hung out in the ergo the entire time and seemed to enjoy it.

The fickle threes...

The first thing Raf said to me, as he opened his eyes: "I love you sooooo much, mummy. I love you the best". Half an hour later, after asking him to drink his shake at the table and saying no to a bit of telly, he said, "I don't love you anymore', and turned his back on me! I think there is a lot of 'I'm not your friend any more' at school, and he's absolutely learned the emotional impact of such sentiments. He's such a monkey.

7 months old and a new tooth!

Charlie is SEVEN months old! The day also brought the beginning of a tooth. He'd been up for most of the night the day before (cheerful and not sad - but UP!) and yesterday I felt the jagged edge of a new little nasher. What a bit boy.

Here he is going down for a nap... not going well.

But suddenly he was asleep... 2.5 hours. I lay next to him the entire time. bliss.

He is loving food and grabs everything. Here he is with one of Rafi's vegan 'cheesy soldiers'.

Belated Birthday Post!

A belated birthday post... I turned 37 (yikes) on Monday. Another lovely day with the boys. I took the day off (mostly) from work and enjoyed taking the boys to the open gym class that Rich usually takes them to. First I woke up to these two boys and lots of cuddles.

And then we headed to the open gym and even Charlie was getting into things.

Raf got a good go on the infamous bat-bike that I hear about every week as Raf is usually involved in some sort of stand-off with another little boy.

Meanwhile a little girl brought Charlie over a doll to play with. He gave the baby a good kiss.

We had to head to a pediatric cardiology appointment with Charlie (I'll write another post) but when we got back I was lucky enough to head for a nap while Rich and Rafi made a birthday cake.

Raf made me a train cake, of course! And he did all the sprinkles, too.

A really wonderful day with the boys.

mother's day 2013

It's really been a hectic few months, and while the semester has ended reports need to be written, grading needs to be done, and summer teaching has to be prepared. Today, though, I refused to think about work and instead had a very relaxing day hanging out with the boys. Rich made it a very special day. It was just lovely.

As usual Charlie woke up before 5am. Rich got up with him and I fell back to sleep with a still sleeping Rafi. Bliss! At 7am Charlie came back in and fell back to sleep for a while and we all hung out in bed with hot chocolate and lots of snuggling.

When I walked downstairs I discovered a gorgeous breakfast. Rich had prepared a beautiful platter of fruit, and I snuck a quick peek at a cake that he's been up making and decorating the night before (by all accounts he was still decorating the cake at 1:30am... what a good dad and husband). I also got a new rose bush, another plant, and a surprise book on my kindle. I also loved the sign that they boys made for me... it's difficult to see but it says, 'we love mummy'!

My pretty cake.

He's a bit of a messy eater but he loved the melon and mango.

More hugs... and then in the afternoon I went up for a nap. Oh, bliss. When I got up we went outside for some fun on the play ground. Charlie is really liking his swing.

Raf wanted to climb the big muddy bank next to our house, but when I reminded him that we were having cake for tea he sprinted back home. We all like cake - and honestly it was delicious.

Poor Charlie is too little for cake. Next year, son.

After tea we went around the block, and when we returned home I had a very relaxing bath.  Perfect.

A lovely day, and thanks to Rich for making such a nice effort. It was much appreciated and much needed.

Raf was funny... he was telling me what he loved about me - and this included how I play trains with him, how I play hide and seek, and, interestingly, how I don't bite the dogs!
