We have some dear friends who live down the road. We've known them since we moved to this little town over 7 years ago. I met Kate at yoga and she has been a wonderful friend since, even if we frequently go long stretches of not being in touch. We were both childless in those early days and would take frequent walks lamenting on the notion that we would be perfectly happy without kids. Well, I had a dream one night that Kate was pregnant and later that morning she called to say she WAS!
Taylor is now 5... and now she has another little boy who's 2. These boys are possibly the sweetest kids I have ever met. So loving, friendly, and kind. It's not a big surprise given how generous and wonderful the parents are - as well as their Grandma, Aunt and Uncle.
A few days ago we bumped into Kate and the boys at the supermarket. Raf was half asleep in his ergo and Kate had two helpers trying to convince her to put holiday cookies in her basket. We stopped and chatted and Taylor, who is just the most friendly little boy I've ever met, was chatting to Rafi (the baby!) and hugging and kissing him as Rafi smiled down at him from his carrier. It was absolutely adorable, especially as I received inadvertent hugs as Taylor hugged Raf.
Anyway, Kate emailed me an exchange between her and the boys as they were en route home from the market. So sweet.
"Just had to tell you this: after we finished our groceries (after seeing
you), we all piled in the car. Thomas, who has this adorable lovey-side,
told me he loved me and that I was his best friend. Taylor then said he
loved me too, but he "really loved that baby" - he then added that he
liked "that girl" alot, but loved the baby. He then was quiet a moment
and said, "I think in a couple of years, I'm going to have a new friend.""
hey alex that is such a lovely story.

how very cute! I love kiddos
ReplyDeleteHow Sweet is that :-) Rafi seems to be very friendly boy!
ReplyDeleteAwwwww! That is so cute. And wouldn't it be so nice if that happened? You are already so fortunate to have Kate as your friend (and vice versa)--it would be nice if your kids were also friends!
ReplyDeleteit really is so lovely. I don't know of it's harder to raise a girl or a boy in this culture. I already hear a lot of 'you don't want to make Raf into a mummy's boy'. I do have to wonder why not!! but raising a sensitive, kind little boy is really so important, and certainly goes against the grain.
ReplyDeleteAw, Jen, you're too kind. I'm so glad Raf has Sage as his friend, too. I remembered when she whispered to you in WFs that she wanted to have a baby in the family :)
